Creamy Shrimp

As some of you know by now, one of my favorite shows on the food network is Diners Drive Ins and Dives. I think I love that show, because if I was to ever open a restaurant it would be like those featured on this show, cooking with love and running a place that is like family. Any way I was recently watching and Guy Fieri went to this place in Louisiana and I had always heard of shrimp and craw fish etouffee  and I have always say that is something I would visit Louisiana for. As I watched the lady cooked it, I asked myself how could I make this myself. Well it turned out, I had lots of uncooked shrimp at home, no craw fish though, but me and the kids love shrimp so much I thought I will copy the recipe just making shrimp and that is what I did and it turned out so good, my daughters are already asking when I’m I going to make this again. Told them I would order some craw fish from amazon, they said not necessary.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2lbs. uncooked shrimp( peeled and deveined)
  • salt n pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tbsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp. creole seasoning
  • 1 tsp old bay seasoning
  • 2 garlic cloves minces
  • about 1/4 qt of a red, yellow, and green bell pepper thinly sliced. Used whatever colors you do have.
  • 1/2 cup half n half
  • 1/2 cup water or seafood broth
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 stick of butter.
  • 1/2 tbsp all purpose flour

Ingredients for green sauce, which I always have a couple jars of different variations in my fridge.

  • Green onions
  • fresh parsley
  • fresh garlic
  • bell pepper

Directions

I season shrimp with salt, pepper, creole seasoning and old bay seasoning, set aside until ready for it. Heat olive oil on medium low heat, add butter let melt, then add onions and minced garlic, saute until onions are cooked and soft, add bell peppers, stirring to combine all ingredients, saute about 1 minute. Add all purpose flour and combine, continuously stirring until flour is cooked out, add water or shrimp broth and half n half, bring to a slow boil . Add shrimp and stir to combine all ingredients together, add 2 tbsp of green sauce ( this is optional) add red pepper flakes and stir, cook until shrimp is cooked about 7-8 minutes. I served with a pumpkin savory rice. I will add a blog for that. On the show she served with white rice.

Hello, I am a wife and mother who just love cooking for my family and friends. Cooking is a great passion of mine. I am Jamaican and love to cook Jamaican dishes, but my children do not always agree with what they like, so I have had to change recipes around for there liking .
